Many of our customers wonder what they should do about repairing their heating or air conditioning equipment. Repairs can be costly but how do you know when the right time to replace your equipment is?
There are several methods for determining if it makes financial sense to repair or replace but one manufacturer, American Standard Air suggests this financial tip.
“The $5,000 Rule”
Take the age of the equipment and multiply that by the estimated repair cost.
If the number is more than $5,000, then you should consider replacing your unit.
FOR EXAMPLE
A unit that is 10 years old with $300 in repairs is $3,000. It’s a financially responsible to make those repairs.
A unit that is 10 years old with $600 in repairs is $6,000. You should consider purchasing a new unit for the long-term benefits.
