Spring cleaning – a time to declutter your homes, donate some old clothes, and take care of some seasonal plumbing maintenance! Yes, that’s right, it’s time to spring clean your plumbing and transition your winterized home to the season ahead.
Be sure to add the below to your to do list:
Check for leaks and damage – Faucets located outside of your home are more susceptible to damage due to harsh winter weather and built up debris. Do a sweep to see if there’s any significant damage or leaks, both inside and outside the home.
Check your air conditioning unit – Routine cleaning not only prolongs the life of your unit, but having an unclogged, debris-less, clean coil unit will help it to function more efficiently.
Check your toilets – Make sure your toilets are flushing properly. If not, you may need to replace worn tank parts (and lower your water bill in the process!)
Check your hot water heater – Make sure the temperature setting is no higher than 120 F to prevent possible scalding and extra energy usage.
Check shower heads – Remove mineral deposit build-up on shower heads by soaking them overnight in vinegar. Simply take a plastic baggie with vinegar, place it over the shower head and secure it in place with a rubber band. Once removed, gently scrub away with an old toothbrush.
